Camp Sherman

If you love outdoor recreation, then you need to be at Camp Sherman. This charming little community is an unincorporated settlement located in Jefferson County, Oregon, not far from the little town of Sisters. Located on the Metolius River, Camp Sherman is a great place to enjoy all types of outdoor recreation year round.

Having a population of a few hundred year-round residents, Camp Sherman grows to several thousand inhabitants during the warmer months. The little community has an elementary school, a general store and a post office, as well as a volunteer fire department.

Numerous miles of trails, a multitude of lakes and the Metolius River provide many opportunities for year-round recreation. Scenic hiking and mountain biking trails include the Windigo Trail, which is approximately seven miles one way. Other popular trails start from downtown Camp Sherman, one running to the Metolius Meadows and another starting near the General Store and traveling out the 700 Road. In the winter, these same trails serve as cross-country ski trails or snowshoeing routes.

Much of the focus of the community of Camp Sherman is on the understanding and preservation of the high mountain lands of Central Oregon. In the summer, you can join a weekend guided interpretive walk through the local forest, attend a lecture on nature, and/or join a tour offering flower observation.
