Overview

If you love the water you’ll find plenty of places to go swimming in Bend. During the hot summer months you can enjoy a dip in the Deschutes River at one of the state parks, or you can cool off in a nearby lake or reservoir. If you prefer swimming in a pool, there’s always the local fitness center in town with an Olympic-sized pool, as well as two public pools in nearby Sunriver. There are also plenty of private pools at area resorts as well as local health clubs.

Where to Go Swimming

  • Juniper Swim and Fitness Center – Located in Bend on NE 6th Street, this facility is operated by the Bend Parks and Recreation Department.  The facility has an 50-meter indoor/outdoor Olympic pool, a 25-meter indoor pool, an indoor children’s pool, and an outdoor pool with a water slide.
  • Deschutes River - Two popular places to swim in the Deschutes River near Bend are at Tumalo State Park and Cline Falls State Park. 
  • Umpqua Hot Springs – Tucked away in the Umpqua National Forest not far from Crater Lake, this free natural hot springs offers beautiful views of the Umpqua River. The pool is covered by a shelter, but there are no walls around it.
  • Lake Billy Chinook – Located next to Cove Palisades State Park north of Bend, this beautiful reservoir is a very popular place to go swimming during the hot summer days of Central Oregon’s high desert country,
  • Belknap Hot Springs – Located west of Bend near the tiny community of McKenzie Bridge, this popular natural hot springs on the McKenzie River has two beautifully maintained pools. The lower pool is open to both lodge guests as well as day use visitors. The upper pool is reserved for overnight guests. The pools are open year round; fees do apply.
  • Prineville Reservoir – Located east of Bend in high desert country, this is a very popular place to go swimming in the summer.
  • Sunriver – There are two swimming pools in Sunriver that are open to the public. The South Pool has a 50-foot waterslide that is especially fun for kids. The smaller North Pool is usually less busy and is located at the Woodlands Golf Course.
  • Resorts – The resorts near Bend – Sunriver, Black Butte Ranch, and Eagle Crest – each have swimming pools that are available for their guests to use.
  • Private Clubs – Some of the health clubs and athletic clubs in Bend have swimming pools available to club members.
