Overview

A popular bedroom community of Bend, the small unincorporated town of Tumalo is surrounded by the beautiful scenery of Central Oregon. You can view nine Cascade peaks from Tumalo. The towering pines of the Deschutes National Forest are just a few miles west of town, and the Deschutes River flows through the east side of town. It’s no wonder that many people who work in Bend and Redmond choose to reside in this quiet community, while others have found it to be the perfect place to retire.

There are plenty of hotels, B&Bs, inns, and beautiful private vacation rentals in the area, as well as Eagle Crest Resort about 10 miles northeast of Tumalo. For dining, there are many restaurants, fast food places, pizza parlors, and cafes in both Bend and Redmond as well.

Activities

Located just east of the Deschutes National Forest and the Cascade Mountains, Tumalo offers visitors many options for recreation. Dozens of sparkling alpine lakes provide opportunities to camp and fish, and there are endless trails to hike or bike. There are also several beautiful golf courses in the area. In the winter, avid skiers and boarders will enjoy tackling the slopes of Mt. Bachelor just southwest of Tumalo. Nordic skiers will have no shortage of trails and backcountry to explore.

Attractions

All year round you can visit Tumalo State Park, located just southwest of town. Situated next to the Deschutes River, the park is a great place to hike, fish, swim, camp, or picnic.

Getting Here

To get to Bend from Tumalo, take Hwy 20 south to Hwy 97. Continue south on Hwy 97 to Bend. Along the way you’ll see the mighty Deschutes flowing just west of the highway, with juniper trees dotting the landscape.  The snowcapped peaks of the Three Sisters are to the west, and Mt. Bachelor can be seen just slightly southwest.
