What to Bring
Central Oregon is filled with many wonderful things to do and to see every season of the year. From the fields of wildflowers in the spring, to the sunny days of summer, from the brilliant oranges, reds, and golds of fall to the snow covered wonderland of winter – each season brings new activities and also dictates different items to bring. First select the season, then select the activities and then start your packing list.
In the summer, visitors flock to Bend, Oregon and the surrounding area to enjoy the wonderful warm days and mild summer nights. They enjoy hiking, biking, fishing, boating, whitewater rafting, wildlife viewing, and general exploration of the remarkable geological features. Definitely pack your hiking boots or comfortable walking shoes. Don't forget the sunscreen and insect repellent and tuck in a hat and a pair of sunglasses. The weather can be unpredictable in this high desert country, so it is always good to pack some rain gear.
Winter brings travelers who enjoy all the activities that can be done in the snow – skiing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and just plain playing in the snow! It goes without saying that warm clothes – from head to toe – are the primary concern for winter travel and fun.
Sports gear and equipment is another decision for many. What to bring may include golf clubs in the summer to ski equipment in the winter. Just make a list and check it twice.
