Overview

Crescent Lake, Oregon, is a tiny resort town nestled deep in the beautiful Deschutes National Forest southwest of Bend. Visitors to the town can enjoy a wide range of recreational activities throughout the year. It’s the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban living and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of this mountain community.

Crescent Lake, OR is located about 66 miles southwest of Bend just off Hwy 58, next to the lake of the same name.

Lodging and Services

Although it’s just a little mountain community in Oregon, Crescent Lake has two different places that offer visitors several cozy cabins and chalets, as well as an RV park for lodging. There are also several campgrounds right on the lake.  Dining options include a restaurant, a café, and a tavern.

Activities

During the warmer months, visitors to Crescent Lake can enjoy a variety of activities, including fishing for trout and salmon, boating, and waterskiing at Crescent Lake. There are many scenic trails in the area for hiking or mountain biking. The famous Pacific Crest Trail is nearby and can be accessed via several different trailheads.

Due to its location and elevation, Crescent Lake receives a lot of snow. Winter recreation opportunities include both Alpine and Nordic skiing, snowboarding, tubing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.

Attractions

Odell Butte, located just southeast of Crescent Lake, is a volcanic peak with an elevation of just over 7,000 feet. It is one of just a few peaks that still has a working lookout at the summit.

The Diamond Peak Wilderness Area is less than 5 miles west of Crescent Lake. This beautiful protected area covers over 52,000 acres. Diamond Peak, one of many Cascade volcanoes, towers on the horizon at 8,744 feet.

Getting Here

To get to Bend from Crescent Lake in Oregon, head southeast on Hwy 58, then east on Crescent Cutoff Rd to Hwy 97. Take Hwy 97 north to Bend.

This is a very scenic drive, with much of the route following the Little Deschutes River. You may spot various wildlife along the way such as elk, deer, foxes, golden eagles, or great horned owls.

As you get closer to Bend you will pass through the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. This is a fascinating area that covers over 55,000 acres and includes lava flows and interesting geologic formations. Be sure to stop and explore the fascinating Lava River Cave, which is just east of Hwy 97.
